Why Choose Chorotegas Surf School?

Chorotegas Surf School of Nosara is a locally owned surf shop and school, located in Playa Guiones, Costa Rica. We love to surf and sharing that with our clients. In addition to surfing, we also enjoy teaching visitors about our culture and that is what really sets us apart. The name Chorotegas is the original Indian tribe from this area in Guanacaste.  We are proud of our heritage and we love to share that. We can provide insight into all things Nosara, making your visit a truly authentic experience.

Our surf lessons also include video analysis, which is unique and extremely useful in the learning process.  Our clients are able to review the video with us after the lesson so they can improve faster.  We always treat our clients with the greatest respect, kindness, patience and friendliness to ensure quality surfing time and  knowledge. Come and experience the local difference!

I’ve Never Surfed Before. Is That OK?

Of course!  We work with surfers of all levels and ages. As soon as you’re ready to try and let us guide you, we will do everything possible to help you have fun and surf!

How Many Instructors Per Student?

We always recommend private lessons with just one student per instructor.  Occasionally we can accommodate two students per instructor, but only for beginners who remain in the white water. It’s really best to have one on one attention to really get the most out of your time and ours.

What’s The Average Age Of Participants?

We welcome kids as young as 4 for beginner lessons and have had clients that were 70.  We can work with each persons level.

What equipment is provided?

We provide you with a surfboard and video review after the lesson.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a towel, swimwear, a rashguard, sunscreen and a bottle of water and your stoke to surf!

Is there somewhere to leave belongings?

Sure!  We always have our video guy filming from the beach and he is happy to guard your belongings while you are surfing.

Can and should I bring my own board?

We generally recommend you do not bring your own board.  Of course advanced surfers getting coaching can, but we have all the best equipment here for these waves. The waves here are likely different than your home beach.

Can we surf at other spots?

Yes, depending on the conditions and our bookings we can take clients to other surf spots.  Or if you have a group then we can block out a half-day to go surf other locations near Nosara, for an additional fee. Transportation is not provided but we are happy to set up a van for everyone.

How does the booking process work?

We recommend booking in advance so you get priority on time of day for your level.  However if we have openings walk-ins are always welcome. You can call directly to make a reservation, or submit your request by contacting us. Just let us know which dates you would like to book,  how many people and their ability level. After submitting your request, simply use our PayPal link to make your deposit to secure your reservation. We require a 50% deposit to reserve your dates. Packages are available. We will send you a confirmation via email to confirm.

What method of payment do you accept?

We accept both Paypal and Cash.  There is a small fee for Paypal payments. Deposits can be made by cash in person at our shop, or online using our PayPal link.

When’s The Best Time Of Year To Go To Surfing?

Generally, mid-November through March is the best for all levels.  April through June usually brings bigger waves for intermediate and advanced surfers.  Then June – August is back to all levels.  Our rainy season here is September and October and the ocean is usually choppy with big waves to surf.

What if the conditions are not appropriate for my level at my booked session?

If the conditions are not good at the time you booked it is likely that they will be better at a different time that day, or the next day.  We will do everything we can to get you surfing!  We believe starting early in the day usually  provides the best conditions. Our goal is to provide you with quality time to learn to surf, so if we need to move things around to do that, we will.

Hope to see you soon. PURA VIDA!!
